Kevin Durant spent his summer on film, and one of the benefits to fans will be seeing the superstar in facinating moments, such as when he withdrew from Team USA, and the crew
his conversation with coach Mike Krzyzewski on camera, citing fatigue and a season-ending injury to Paul George as two big reasons for taking the summer off.
Durant was apparently already leaning towards withdrawing from the FIBA World Cup this summer due to being drained, but George’s gruesome right leg injury during a Team USA scrimmage seemed to seal the deal for Durant,
“It took everything out of me seeing [George’s injury],” Durant later told friend Randy Williams and a Nike executive at his camp. “Everything I had to play for Team USA, that injury stripped it away from me.”
The HBO documentary also got his phone call with Krzyzewski on camera, although it’s unclear if it’s audible in the film. “The Offseason: Kevin Durant,” will air tonight at 10 p.m. on HBO.
