Honestly, no one knows.
But that doesn’t mean the lack of certainty and pure speculation will stop people from discussing where they believe Kevin Durant will be playing basketball in two years when his contract with the Thunder expires.
If Durant decides to leave the Thunder, many believe he will return to his home of Washington D.C. to join the Washington Wizards.
In fact, the latest buzz from Zach Lowe at Grantland indicates Durant has let those close to him know that the Thunder and Wizards will likely be the finalists when his free agency decision officially looms.
Lowe wrote:
"That intel (on Durant’s leanings) is all over the place, by the way. Some teams are optimistic it will be open season, and others have heard rumblings that Durant has already made it known it will come down to the Thunder and Wizards. Nobody really knows. There is also the wild-card possibility that Durant signs a one-year deal so he can enter free agency again in the summer of 2017 — when he’ll have 10 years of experience, and thus be eligible for a larger max contract."
It is also important to note Lowe’s comment that Durant could be open to signing a one-year deal.
That would completely change things up around the NBA and he could be eligible to sign a bigger max deal one year later.
Plenty can change in the next two years, so the smart thing to do is sit back and wait for time to pass and allow Kevin Durant to make a decision whenever he feels the time is appropriate. It sure as hell won’t be coming anytime soon.
