The Tennessee Titans hope the bye week helped NFL rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger get more comfortable.

The Tennessee Titans have given the ball to rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger and he’s played well. After the bye week, coach Ken Whisenhunt is hoping the extra practice helped Mettenberger get more comfortable with the offense and on the field.

After he played the second half against the Houston Texans before the bye week, Zach Mettenberger ended up with 237 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort, but gave the Titans some hope after a lot of practice during the bye week.

“Getting the time during the bye week was good, because like I said, we got a lot of plays,” Ken Whisenhunt told reporters. “(Mettenberger) got the majority of those, which is invaluable, and hopefully that’ll help us as we go forward.

“We got a chance to do some situational work, which is what we needed, to work on third down, work on some red zone things. A lot of times it was even a case of repeating plays, where you get two looks at it, so you get a chance to really get a feel for the play. That’s good.”

In the upcoming games against the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, Whisenhunt expects plenty of pressure on the quarterback, but says he thinks they can work against it.

“We’ve had opportunities to do that, and we’ve had marginal success,” Whisenhunt said. “Cleveland came after us a few plays, and we had some success. That’s the kind of thing you’ve got to do to keep teams from doing it to you.”

The Tennessee Titans are 2-6 this year and have dropped two in a row. We’ll see if they can pick up a win Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens on the road.
