Matthew Stafford (and fantasy football players who own him) can rejoice: Megatron is back.
While he’s not at 100 percent, Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson said he was pretty close to it following Wednesday’s practice, all but assuring the All-Pro will be back in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Johnson also added that he doesn’t expect any rust based on his recent workouts.
Johnson returned to practice on Monday, when coach Jim Caldwell said he would take a day-to-day approach with Johnson and running back Reggie Bush, who also returned after missing the last three games with an ankle sprain.
One of the most potent weapons in the game, Johnson has not played since further hampering a high ankle sprain during Detroit’s week five game against the Buffalo Bills. He had attempted to play through it the previous week against the New York Jets, yet was used more as a decoy.
Johnson came out of the gate with a 7-164-2 line in the regular season opener against the the New York Giants, but had been slowed down prior to the injury. He has 22 catches for 348 yards and two scores entering this Sunday.
Stafford’s numbers have struggled without having Johnson, as he has thrown just 11 touchdowns in eight games while also being sacked 24 times, a huge contrast to the fact he was sacked just 23 times during the 2013 season.
