When the Chicago Bulls acquired Doug McDermott during the 2014 NBA Draft they did so knowing he’d help them with much needed outside shooting.
What they probably didn’t know is that McDermott has some hops as he put on display Tuesday night.
Facing the Orlando Magic, the Chicago Bulls rookie was sitting in his usual spot beyond the three point line as fellow rookie Nikola Mirotic sat with the ball in the post. The two made eye contact and that’s when Doug McDermott streaked in from the perimeter and was hit with an interior pass by Mirotic.
There was plenty of room for Doug McBuckets to simply lay the ball in but he apparently wanted more and elevated up for a rather impressive dunk.
Perhaps it was the angle that forced McDermott to throw it down with such authority but the rookie, who’s known far more for his shot than athletic ability, had the rim shaking after he made his way back up the court.
Given Doug McDermott’s desire (and ability) to hit from downtown it’s often lost that the former Creighton standout is actually 6’8 and can get up at rim level when the time calls for it.
We may not see Doug McDermott dunking very often though it seems rather evident that he has no problem doing so.
