Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters suggests he’s having a difficult time finding his role with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love being the focus on offense.

When LeBron James and Kevin Love joined the Cleveland Cavaliers this past offseason, Dion Waiters seemed to believe that little would change.

Waiters, for whatever reason, appeared to think that he’d still be a focal point on offense and that he’s still get a similar amount of shots.

So far that hasn’t proven to be the case as Dion Waiters is currently averaging four-plus less shots a game and is struggling in his new role. He’s plenty aware of the early season woes as he told Cleveland.com.

“I’m still trying to find my way,” Waiters said. “As long as I keep putting in the work, I’ll be fine.”

Waiters, who has previously desired to be more of a play-maker says doing such will be difficult as James, Love or Kyrie Irving will be on the floor at the same time.

“I’m still going to be out there with two or three players,” Waiters explained. “If I come off the bench in the first quarter, at least two of those guys are going to play the whole first quarter regardless. So it doesn’t really matter. That’s what people don’t understand.”

While it’s nice of Dion Waiters to suggest he wants the ball in his hands more in effort to be a playmaker, that’s not what the Cavaliers need with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving on the roster. What they need is for Dion Waiters to be the scoring guard that he has already proven himself to be while providing good defense.

It’s not a complicated role and it’s one that Waiters can thrive in if he commits to it. Doing so appears to be the issue however.
