Apple announced that it would be rolling out its first smartwatch, but if you want the new technology in real gold, prepare to pay heftily for it.
Well, it may at least be a small fortune. Apple has been rumored to be making a gold Apple Watch, either an 18-karat pink or yellow gold version to be exact. While a typical Apple Watch may run you $349, the much more luxurious version could run you between $4,000 and $5,000.

French Apple blog iGen is citing anonymous Apple sources, but did say that at this time prices were not certain. Should those prices hold true however, the gold Apple Watch would run consumers more than both a new 5k Retina iMac and an iPad Air 2. 10 iPad Air 2 models wouldn’t run as much as one of the gold Apple Watches.
Now, if you compare the Apple Watch to other luxury timepieces, you could easily spend more than $4,000, but to be offered from a technology company is what really makes it interesting.
One drawback to the idea of an expensive and luxury driven Apple Watch is the idea that the technology would quickly become dated. Should that happen, the watch itself would become little more than a piece of jewelry.
There have been rumors that Apple could make the computer chip in the Apple Watch replaceable, thus allowing the gold version of the watch to continue to improve even once the initial technology becomes old. At this point however, Apple has not confirmed anything in regards to the rumor, and it all remains speculation.
Spring 2015 is the release timetable for Apple’s new smartwatches, and even the normal $349 version will cause consumers to have to start saving now. Remember, in order to use an Apple Watch, you must already have an Apple iPhone 6 to work with the new device.
I’m not quite sold on the Apple Watch, I like the idea, but am taking a wait and see approach.
