After winning three straight to open the season, the Miami Heat suffered their first lost of the year on Tuesday and in the process may have lost forward Luol Deng.

The veteran suffered a hard hit to his arm in the second quarter of Miami’s tilt against the Houston Rockets and could miss Miami’s next game against the Charlotte Hornets with the injury.

“He’s not going to make any excuses for it, but he got whacked on the arm and you could see he just wasn’t quite the same in terms of being able to lift his arm and play normal,” Miami Heat head coach Eric Spoelstra said.

Understandably you’re not going to have much success on a basketball court when you’re dealing with a bum arm as it alters your play on both ends of the court.

As to the severity of the injury, it’s currently not known though it’s not expected to be something that sidelines Luol Deng for an extended period thankfully. It’s likely nothing more than a deep bruise/contusion and the Miami Heat are going to be cautious with their ‘star’ free agent signing given how early it is in the season.

If Luol Deng is to miss the game it’s possible rookie James Ennis could be given the start. Veteran Danny Granger and Josh McRoberts could also form somewhat of a tandem package to replace Deng though Granger has yet to play this season as he deals with yet another nagging injury.

Hopefully Luol Deng won’t be forced to miss much action and he’ll return to the court in the very near future.
