While the San Francisco Giants are said to be interested in bringing back outfielder Michael Morse, they may not want to pay the veteran his desired salary.

One team that may be interested in doing so are the New York Mets who are reportedly intrigued with the prospect of signing the postseason hero.

Morse not only knocked in the final and game winning RBI of the World Series but also helped propel the Giants to the Fall Classic with an incredibly clutch eighth inning home run against the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS.

Now the Mets seem to have their eyes on the power hitter who is familiar playing in the National League East.

"After eliminating Michael Cuddyer from their list of potential free-agent pursuits, the Mets still have other outfield targets they may consider.Michael Morse is one such name who fits the Mets’ criteria, according to a person with knowledge of the club’s internal discussions."

Morse, who has a notorious history of injuries signed a one-year, $6 million dollar deal with the San Francisco Giants last offseason. He again dealt with injury during the regular season though proved his worth in the postseason as he reinforced the San Francisco lineup.

The biggest problem facing Michael Morse however (outside of his injury history) is the fact that he’s not a good defender. The New York Mets could put him at first base in effort to hide some of his warts though he’s not exactly a gold glove caliber defender at first either.

Given that many believe he’s a better fit at the designated hitter spot in the American League though Morse has previously stated he likes to play defense as he can still help the team even when his bat is in a funk.
