Rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins says that he will be ready to play for the Buffalo Bills for their game against the Kansas City Chiefs on the week 10 NFL schedule.

The Buffalo Bills had a scare on Tuesday afternoon when sensational rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins was forced to exit practice with a groin injury. Less than a day later, the team can apparently breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Watkins’ status for week 10 seemed like it might be in doubt, but an AP report indicates that Watkins will be ready to go on Sunday against the Chiefs:

"Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins will be ready to play against Kansas City this weekend despite hurting his groin in practice, a person familiar with the diagnosis told The Associated Press. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because coach Doug Marrone declined to provide details of the injury after Watkins was hurt in practice Wednesday. The person said Watkins is fine and ready to go."

That is certainly a different version of the situation than the one offered by head coach Doug Marrone directly after practice in which he said that Watkins could be fine or could miss multiple weeks. Some of that might be the gamesmanship of weekly injury reports, but it still probably made the Bills nervous to not know if Watkins was going to be around or not.

Watkins has 38 catches for 590 yards and five touchdowns so far in his rookie season. He has posted that production despite playing through broken ribs and dealing with EJ Manuel as his quarterback to start the season. The arrow is pointing up for the no. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft as he plays out the rest of the season.
