An AFC Scout told Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman that former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice will have a tough time finding a new team after his appeal hearing.

With Ray Rice’s appeal hearing underway, it could just be a matter of weeks before he’s allowed to sign with a new NFL team. Sources have indicated it will be easier said than done though as far as Rice finding a job is concerned. Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman had the report from an AFC scout.

In this case, idiocy is usually dictated by desperation. A team sitting in the thick of the playoff race, in dire need of a running back, could feasibly turn to Rice to fill the gaps, but that seems like a long shot. More likely is that a team will strike out in free agency and the draft this offseason, then offer Rice a training camp invite to allow the veteran an opportunity to prove himself.

Of course, this will all depend on the outcome of Rice’s hearing. Roger Goodell testified, which is as good a sign as any for Rice, but until we know how much the NFL can and will punish him beyond the ‘indefinite’ label fixed to him, it’s tough to know when Rice will be eligible for return.

If Rice wins his hearing, he would be reinstated immediately or close to it. From there, he’s a free agent. The question then will be which owner wants to anger all the others by taking on the bad publicity that surely will accompany any effort to sign Ray Rice.
