Kevin Durant isn’t used to being injured. Before this season, the NBA’s reigning MVP missed a total of 16 games in seven seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Durant, who is set to be re-evaluated in about four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his right foot that he suffered in the preseason.
It is going to be a process for Durant to get back to his MVP form. According to The Oklahoman’s Darnell Mayberry, he’s recently taken a big step forward on his road back.
It’s a small bit of news, but certainly a reassuring one for Thunder fans. We’ve seen guys like Derrick Rose take much longer than originally expected to make their way back to the court, so it’s always good to see a step in the right direction. No matter how small it may seem, progress is progress.
The Thunder are eagerly awaiting the return of Durant, as well as fellow All-Star Russell Westbrook. Right now, Oklahoma City is rolling out with Serge Ibaka and a cast of young role players who haven’t had much playing time in their NBA careers. If the Thunder are to make the playoffs, they will need these guys back before falling into too deep a hole in the tough Western Conference.
