Dolphins’ Philbin Says Pouncey Needs Big Game Against Lions’ Suh
The Miami Dolphins head to a big inter-conference game against the Detroit Lions Sunday and Joe Philbin wants his offensive line playing extra well.
On the offensive and defensive line for Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions it will be Mike Pouncey trying to prevent Ndamukong Suh from reeking havoc on the Miami offense. Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin knows he’ll have his hands full.

“[Suh] is an excellent football player,” Joe Philbin said. “He’s strong, he’s quick, he’s athletic, he moves well, he gets off blocks. We’re going to have to play, Mike Pouncey, our whole offensive line’s going to have to play well.”
While the Dolphins offense has played well especially as of late, ranking third in the NFL in rushing, the Detroit Lions defense is the best the NFL has to offer. The Lions allow just 290.4 yards a game on offense and just 74 rushing yards per game, which is second in the NFL.
“Well, number one, they are very stout upfront,” Phillbin said. “They are a physical football team. They are active on the second level as well. Not only are they strong, but they can move and they are athletic. I think their pursuit is very, very good, and they tackle well. When you have those components, it makes it tough. What are they averaging, 3.2 or three yards they are giving up per rushing play? That’s way up there in the National Football League. They are playing good run defense.”
Ndamukong Suh won’t be the only worries that Philbin and the Dolphins offense will have to worry about. Ezekiak Ansah has soared to be one of the better defensive ends in the NFL this year combining for 50 hurries so far with Jason Jones on the other end. DeAndre Levy is another huge weapon for Detroit and one of the top linebackers in the league at stopping the run.
The Miami Dolphins are coming off a huge 37-0 win against the San Diego Chargers and will look to keep that going in Detroit Sunday. But, the Lions are up with the top teams in the NFL, and will look to build on their three game win streak.
