It didn’t look good when Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio took a tough fall after rolling his ankle in the second quarter against the Orlando Magic Friday night.
It isn’t clear what caused the injury other than maybe a hard step to the basket gone wrong. You can see the video for yourself below.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are officially saying Rubio has a sprained left ankle and will not return to the game. He will be reevaluated tomorrow.
It’s a tough blow for the Wolves, who are counting on building around a young core of Rubio, Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and others. Rubio certainly had his deficiencies (he is a dreadful shooter) but he’s among the best passers in the NBA and a strong defensive presence. We’ll find out more on how long he will be out for tomorrow, and hopefully for the Timberwolves–and fans of the NBA–it isn’t too long.
This is starting to become the year of the injury, with Paul George, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook already due to miss large portions of the season. Let’s hope Rubio doesn’t get added to that list.
