When you think of Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin, you think of an extremely athletic player who makes his money flying above the rim.
That’s not to say he doesn’t have other talents, but the high-flying All-Star has made his name with powerful dunks and highlight acrobats. Blake Griffin wants more though as he spent much of his offseason attempting to expand his arsenal and is looking to balance his game moving forward.
The problem? It seems as if Blake Griffin is trying too hard to implement his new skills and has abandoned some of what made him the offensive force that he is. The forward seems aware of that as he plans to round out his game by bringing back some closer to the rim play.
“I think it starts with me. I need to do a better job of mixing up and attacking more, not settling for jump shots,” Griffin said before Friday’s practice. “That’s something I’ve got to work on, something I’ve got to kind of figure out. Hopefully that brings a different dynamic to our offense.”
We often see players work extremely hard to develop a more balanced game during the offseason only to struggle during the early portion of the schedule in their attempts to get their feet wet.
Thankfully the struggles don’t often last long as it’s unlikely that Blake Griffin’s struggles will continue. His best bet to revert back to the player he was and then mix in his newly minted skills which at the end of the day will make him a more more balanced and complete player.
After all, that’s all Griffin is looking to be.
