The Boston Red Sox aren’t actively trying to trade Yoenis Cespedes but aren’t opposed to listening on deals (involving a variety of players) either.

When the Boston Red Sox acquired Yoenis Cespedes from the Oakland A’s this past season, many applauded the Beantown front office as Boston was able to bring in a powerful bat for free agent-to-be Jon Lester.
There were even whispers of Lester eventually returning to the Red Sox come free agency which would have been quite the coup.
However issues quickly arose with Yoenis Cespedes in Boston and rumors began to swirl suggesting the team could look to trade the slugger. However general manager Ben Cherington says the team is not actively looking to trade Yoenis Cespedes though they entering the offseason with an open mind.
“I’m not ruling out getting into a trade conversations where we might match up. But there is no particular player that we’re looking to move, including Cespedes. But we’re going to make the team better where we can and we’ll try to be open-minded when trying to do that.”
If that’s not the weakest vote of confidence I’ve ever seen, I’m not sure what is.
Simply put it appears as if the Boston Red Sox aren’t calling up every team in the league attempting to pawn Yoenis Cespedes off though they’re certainly not turning down phone calls of those interested. Of course they need to get fair market value and that may prove to be difficult, but it certainly sounds like they’re open for business if somebody wants to make an offer.
It doesn’t sound like Cespedes is the only player the Boston Red Sox would consider trading either and given their past season, that’s an understandable stance.
Certainly looks as if it could be a busy offseason for the front office.
