The Kansas City Royals could bring back Billy Butler this offseason in MLB free agency.

The Kansas City Royals were looking to trade Billy Butler at the trading deadline this past season, but after the role that he played in their World Series run, they could be interested in bringing him back to DH next season. Butler has been very vocal about his desire to return to Kansas City, and the two sides might very well be able to work something out this offseason.

According to a report from Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star, the Royals are definitely warming up to the ideal of Butler returning.

Butler had a fairly inconsistent season last year with the Royals, compiling a .271 batting average to go along with nine home runs and 66 RBI’s. There is no denying his talent or leadership ability, but the Royals simply didn’t see a long-term fit. During the Royals’ playoff run, he was a big leader for their young roster and was a big part of the success.

It would be a good idea to bring him back next season at the right price, and the fans would definitely enjoy having him back. At 28 years of age, he still has a few good seasons of baseball left in him.

This past year was an absolute dream season for the Royals, and they are hoping that it isn’t just a one-year wonder. They will still have some talent on the roster next year, but they will need to make some moves this offseason in order to remain in contention. Kansas City has their fans behind them once again, but they need to show some sort of effort to keep a contender on the diamond.

Don’t be surprised to see Butler wind up back in Kansas City this offseason. Both sides are interested in getting a deal done, and Butler is a good fit with the Royals as well.
