Despite a disappointing overtime loss to the Orlando Magic Friday night, the real disappointment for the Minnesota Timberwolves occurred in the second quarter when star point guard Ricky Rubio went down after rolling his ankle on a drive to the basket.
Rubio didn’t return to the game and was ruled out “indefinitely” with a left ankle sprain, the team announced.
"“An MRI taken this morning on Ricky Rubio’s left ankle confirmed a significant sprain. He will be sidelines indefinitely. A further update will be provided when appropriate.”"
Then Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today reported that he is hearing Rubio could miss 7-8 weeks, which seems reasonable. Now the latest word is that the team will have to wait until the swelling in Rubio’s left ankle subsides before having a clear timetable on his return.
From Jon Krawczynski for the Associated Press.
So Zillgit is reporting what he is hearing from a source, apparently, while Krawczynski points out that no official return date will be announced until the Timberwolves are able to fully evaluate Rubio’s left ankle.
You can see the video of how his injury occurred here.
So far this season, Rubio is averaging 9.4 points and 10 assists in 28.8 minutes per game. He’s worked on his historically bad shot, too, shooting 42.6 percent as opposed to 38.1 percent a season ago.
