As an athlete you have plenty of concerns during the course of a game. Not only are you worried about your performance but you’re also likely thinking of potential injury in the back of your head. Of course such injuries would likely occur in actual game action and not during a stoppage in play.
Alas that’s not how things shook out for an Australian cricket player who nearly had his face blown off by a pyrotechnics display.
Attempting to retrieve a ball in a match against South Africa, Australian cricket captain Aaron Finch made his way towards a rather inconspicuous machine on the sidelines. As he approached the ball he likely felt some heat and quickly but the brakes on and gave the pyrotechnics machine a second look.
Believing everything was safe, Finch was getting ready to lean down and grab the ball went the fireworks starting spraying out.
The flames appeared to be just inches from Aaron Finch’s face.
Talk about absolutely terrifying. The craziest thing might be how Finch, now frustrated, decides to simply just walk by the machine with relative ease after just seconds ago it attempted to turn his face into burnt toast. Perhaps he’s an old rugby player or something at eats pain for breakfast.
One would assume the pyrotechnics display is handled by a human so why the flames came out were unknown. Perhaps the person in control of the display simply didn’t see that Finch was near the tube and pushed the ignition button in an unaware state.
Thankfully nobody was hurt and Finch was provided an apology, but goodness that could have been incredibly bad.
