The Minnesota Timberwolves lost a heartbreaker in overtime on Friday night to the Orlando Magic, but that loss might not have been the most disappointing news of the night. In the loss, point guard Ricky Rubio went down with an ankle injury, and the initial prognosis is not good.
Minnesota announced on Saturday that Rubio suffered a significant sprain to the ankle and he will be out indefinitely.
So far on this young season, Rubio was averaging 9.4 points and 10 assists per game with five rebounds. With the loss of Kevin Love to the Cavaliers, Rubio was tasked with stepping up and leading this franchise going forward. Now he’ll be off the court until further notice.
The Timberwolves will begin their journey without Rubio in the starting lineup on Saturday night as they take on the Miami Heat on the road.
