In a game that could have a significant impact on the AFC Wild Card race, Alex Smith came up big for the Kansas City Chiefs, scrambling for eight yards and scoring the go-ahead touchdown that put his team up 17-13 in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the AFC playoff picture, the Chiefs (5-3) are in possession of the final wild card spot. Right behind them is the Bills (5-3), so whoever wins this game will have the important head-to-head edge in the case of a tie-breaker.
You can watch Smith’s run below:
So far, Smith has completed 15 of 27 passes for 163 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. He’s also rushed four times for 25 yards and a score.
Many people wonder how far a team can go with Smith as the quarterback. Smith, noted as a game manager, doesn’t often make big plays but is typically efficient. Personally, I’m a believer that with a good defense and running game, Smith can win a Super Bowl. Is Jamaal Charles and this defense enough to get there? Well, we’ll only know if the Chiefs make the playoffs, and Smith’s run could help them get into the post-season.
