It should come as no surprise, but the Washington Redskins locker room was apparently divided on who the team should start at quarterback. That’s the word from wide receiver DeSean Jackson who admitted such to Fox Sports on Sunday morning.
Rumors have swirled suggesting it ownership who requested Robert Griffin III return to the starting lineup once healthy, benching Colt McCoy in the process. McCoy of course took over for Kirk Cousins who despite some impressive throws was benched for turning the ball over far too often.
The uncertainty among who to start stretched to the field.
“You kind of feel guys feeling a certain way about that,” Jackson stated in regards to the quarterback carousal. “In the locker room I had to stand up and say something about that, like as players that’s not our job. We can’t worry about that. The only thing we can worry about is going out on Sundays and putting your best foot forward.”
While players obviously will have their favorites, DeSean Jackson is correct in suggesting that it’s not their call and they need to go along with whatever the front office and/or coaching staff decides. Of course when there are rumors suggesting a disconnect between the front office and coaching staff on who to start, that’s when things begin to get messy.
Clearly Robert Griffin III is the most talented of the bunch though does he give the Washington Redskins the best opportunity to win? That’s a question many seem to be struggling with as it’s not always talent but sometimes fit that builds a winner.
The Washington Redskins will have one more week to figure things out as they’re on a bye Sunday.
