When you think of the modern day San Francisco 49ers you probably think of Frank Gore. Sure, linebacker Patrick Willis and quarterback Colin Kaepernick are also faces of the franchise but it’s Gore who’s not only the longest tenured of the group but also the all-time rushing leader for the franchise.
Given that, it’s a little strange the 31-year-old running back had not scored a rushing touchdown in nearly two months.
That streak was broken today against the New Orleans Saints however as just minutes in the game, Gore plowed through untouched for his first rushing touchdown since September 14th, Week 2 of the NFL season. The touchdown was only Gore’s third score of the year as he also had a receiving touchdown in Week 4.
Not only had Frank Gore been struggling to find the end zone, so had the San Francisco 49ers as they hadn’t scored a rushing touchdown for a few games. Not shockingly, the team had struggled during those contests though appeared to get back to basics against the Saints as they took an early 14-0 lead before the halfway point of the first quarter.
And yes, both of those scores came via rushing touchdowns as rookie running back Carlos Hyde hammered home the second score.
