San Francisco 49ers defensive Justin Smith was encouraged by the team’s Week 10 win, but noted the team still has to win plenty of games going forward.
The San Francisco 49ers escaped New Orleans with a much-needed win over the Saints, but defensive end Justin Smith says that win has to be the beginning of a longer streak. At 5-4, the Niners still have to win a ton of games. At least that’s what Smith claimed in more colorful terms.

“Another NFC loss — that’d put us where we had to win seven in a row,” Smith told USA TODAY Sports. “Now, we’re still backs against the wall. We’ve still got to win a (bleep) load of them.”
The 49ers won on the heels of a thrilling fourth quarter and overtime that saw Colin Kaepernick convert a huge 4th-and-10 and a Jimmy Graham Hail Mary touchdown called back for interference before the 49ers finally won the game in overtime.
“If we would’ve ended a game like that, man, I would’ve been sick,” 49ers safety Antoine Bethea said of the Hail Mary. “I wouldn’t have been able to sleep all week.”
Instead the 49ers can sleep sound knowing they are still alive in the NFL playoff picture. The NFC is a tight, crowded conference, but the Niners still have two games against the Seattle Seahawks and one game against division-leading Arizona Cardinals. Thanks to this win, the team can still have a little control over their destiny in their final seven games.
