Now things have been taken to the next level in Boston Dynamics, however. Now we have a robot striking the ‘Karate Kid’ pose. The usefulness of this endeavor? Unclear. The entertainment value, however, is off the charts.
There is a certain measure of intimidation in seeing the robot strike the pose, but the real strength is in the description of the robot. From Daily Mail Online:
"Atlas is a high mobility, humanoid robot designed to negotiate outdoor, rough terrain, Boston Dynamics said.‘Atlas can walk bipedally leaving the upper limbs free to lift, carry, and manipulate the environment. In extremely challenging terrain, Atlas is strong and coordinated enough to climb using hands and feet, to pick its way through congested spaces."
That is no joke.
Here is the video of the Robo Karate Kid, as it is called:
Technology is a wonderful and terrifying thing. Even if it is random and creating robots that strike poses from movies that were released in the 1980’s.
