Have you ever attempted to visit the Brooklyn Nets‘ website? Most would probably assume that typing in Nets.com would direct you to such, though they would be incorrect.
In fact if you happen to stroll over to Nets.com you’ll currently come across a photo of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban holding a championship trophy with an eBay listing for the domain name next to the picture. That’s of course the most recent redirect as in the past Nets.com also sent you to a New York Knicks All-Star ballot and perhaps most hilarious, the website of former player and head coach Jason Kidd who had a messy divorce with the franchise.
So what the hell is this all about? Well, simply put a 69-year-old woman ended up purchasing Nets.com during the dot-com era and has been sitting on the goldmine since that date. The Brooklyn Nets have asked the woman to sell the rights to the domain on more than one occasion though they’ve never been willing to meet her asking price of $5 million dollars.
Thus she continues to troll them in the most hilarious of fashions.
However there has to come a point where she finally gives up the ghost and sells the domain right? Perhaps not as she and her son, who helps her with some of the taunting feel they can eventually get the cash they so desire.
"Still, the Hills refuse to throw in the towel, and they remain confident that they can cash in on Nets.com in the seven-figure range. After all, John Hill pointed out, Whisky.com sold for $3.1 million last year."
While $5 million dollars for Nets.com is a bit absurd, there’s no denying the Brooklyn Nets’ ability to afford such. Or course it may not be that important to them and they’d rather pocket the $5 million bucks to spend on another sub par shooting guard.
