As a high school coach you’d probably take it as a compliment if you were compared to New England Patriots head honcho Bill Belichick. Well, in most cases, that is.

Sadly the massive eye sustained by Belichick has now found its way to a high school football team in California after they decided to forfeit their upcoming playoff game due to allegations of cheating.

What exactly did they do, you ask? Allegedly they filmed the practice of their upcoming opponent, a task made infamous by Bill Belichick and his New England Patriots. In essence, it was a high school version of “Spygate”.

According to Fred Robledo of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, South Pasadena was set to take on La Canada though evidence emerged stating that they had broken CIF-SS Blue Book Rule 512 and somebody involved with South Pasadena had filmed a portion of La Canada’s practice.

The powers that be put their heads together and not wanting to punish the kids or the fans, allowed the game to go on though had a trick up their sleeve.

Once the game had concluded, no matter the score, South Pasadena would be forced to forfeit the game allowing La Canada to move on. That of course put quite a damper on the players and coaches at South Pasadena who ended up “winning” the game by a score of 21-3 before they returned home and were informed the game would not count.

Understandably it was a tough decision as the kids playing weren’t involved nor were the fans, but you can’t be breaking rules like that and turning high school sports into a watered down of professional football.
