It seems every week a team, be it collegiate or professional continues to come up with wonderful ways to honor the United States armed forces. Today is no different as the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay will not only wear patriotic themed uniforms to honor the military but will take it a step further.
According to CBS Sports, the basketball team will wear uniforms which feature not their names but the names of those who’ve died serving and fighting for the United States.
All of this will take place on Military Appreciation Day for their home game against Illinois-Springfield.
Thirteen players will wear the customized jerseys honoring the fallen hero’s which is hopefully a tradition that will catch on outside of the Green Bay area.
In addition the school will honor current and past veterans by allowing every member of the U.S. Military (active or not) to attend the game free of charge. Overall, it’s just a fine showing on behalf of Wisconsin-Green Bay who should be applauded for taking such a step.
Many of the fallen soldiers who are to be honored had roots or lived in Wisconsin.
As for the actual uniform, it will be a white base with red, white and blue coloring throughout the chest logo. The arm bands to keep the jersey on the shoulder of the basketball player will be red along with the name on the back of the uniform.
The number on the jersey will follow the red, white and blue color pattern of the chest logo and will also be made to look as if its part of the American flag.
Overall just a wonderful job – from honoring the fallen to the active duty.
