New England Patriots star NFL quarterback Tom Brady is excited to see his former back ups Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett square off on Sunday.

This Sunday, two of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s former backups will play each other. The Cleveland Browns take on the Houston Texans and Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett are getting the starts for their respective teams.

Brian Hoyer has been extremely impressive this season ever since beating out rookie Johnny Manziel for the starting spot in the preseason. Hoyer has led the Cleveland Browns to a 6-3 record so far this season and they are at the top of the AFC North standings.

Hoyer has thrown for 2,212 yards and 10 touchdowns through nine games this year.

Brian Hoyer served as a backup in New England from 2009-2011 before Ryan Mallett beat him out for the top back up spot and Hoyer was let go.

On the other side, the Houston Texans will give Ryan Mallett his first career start, replacing Ryan Fitzpatrick who has struggled as of late. The Texans have lost four of their last five and are currently 4-5 on the year.

Ryan Mallett was drafted in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft and was a backup for Tom Brady from 2011-2013.

Meanwhile, Tom Brady told the Houston Chronicle that he’s excited to watch the two blossomed quarterbacks square off: “It speaks to their work ethic, what they’ve been able to accomplish,” Brady said. “They’ve both overcome quite a bit in their career, so it will be fun to see.”

Texan coach Bill O’Brien worked with both quarterbacks as he was the Patriots quarterbacks coach from 2009-2010 and the Patriots offensive coordinator in 2011.
