The Buffalo Bills aren’t making a change at quarterback and will continue to start Kyle Orton over E.J. Manuel who was benched earlier this season
Kyle Orton had his worst game of the year as the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills in their 22-9 loss on Thursday night to the Miami Dolphins but head coach Doug Marrone is not going to make a change and insert E.J. Manuel back in the starting lineup.

“We’re still with Kyle,” Marrone told reporters on Friday, via Pro Football Talk. “It’s still the same with EJ [Manuel] trying to develop and get better each day. We’re just going about the progression of that.”
Manuel, last year’s first round pick was benched earlier this season after back-t0-back losses in Week 4 and Week 5 in favor of Orton. Manuel has completed 58 percent of his passes for 848 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions for an 80.3 quarterback rating.
By comparison, Orton has the same .500 winning percentage at 3-3 after losing for the second week in a row as the Bills playoff hopes are quickly disappearing like many cars in Buffalo under blankets of snow. Orton completed 22-of-39 passes for only 193 yards and the offense was completely out of sync in the second half when the offensive line had troubles containing Cameron Wake and the Dolphins defensive line.
Orton hasn’t turned the ball over at the same rate as Manuel and has shown the ability to move the ball down the field and get Sammy Watkins involved in the passing game, but it looks like Marrone may have to turn back to Manuel at some point later this season after the Bills are eliminated from the playoffs to see if Manuel can be the guy next year or if the Bills need to add a quarterback in the draft next year.
But they won’t have a first rounder after the trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up to draft Watkins.
Orton gave Buffalo a better shot to win now and get Marrone to the playoffs to save his job, but with him unlikely to do the former, it may impact the latter and it is possible the Bills could have a new head coach and new quarterback of the future next year after this failed experiment.
