The Kansas City Chiefs extended first-year starter Allen Bailey to a four-year extension but what does this mean for Justin Houston’s future in Kansas City?

Allen Bailey is having a good season so far in his first year starting for the Kansas City Chiefs and the defensive end to a four-year extension worth $25 million, including a $10 million signing bonus.

Bailey’s deal comes at a time when the Chiefs have been stuck in a stalemate with pending free agent and NFL sack leader Justin Houston. The Chiefs and Houston have been unable to come to a middle ground on terms for a new contract dating back to the offseason and would arguably be the best free agent on the open market should he get there at the end of the year.

He is playing out the final year of his rookie contract and has expressed his displeasure with his compensation, so naturally he will see the Chiefs giving some new paper to Bailey and wonder when his time will come — if it comes at all from Kansas City.

Bailey has four sacks this  year as an end in the Chiefs’ 3-4 front and is now in the company of highly-paid 3-4 ends like J.J. Watt, Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett, although those three players are all more productive than Bailey — by far — and have a longer history of production.

What do you think of the Chiefs paying Bailey while Houston is threatening to break the NFL sack record with his 12 quarterback sacks this year?
