Although Steve Nash has all but decided to hang up his sneakers after yet another injury, the Los Angeles Lakers would still like to see the veteran point guard on the sidelines.
A two-time NBA MVP, Nash may not be able to help on the floor though he could certainly be of use in a “coaching” capacity, something that current Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott has been seeking.
Scott has reached out to Nash who recently drew irritation for posting a video of himself golfing, though has yet to receive a response from Steve Nash.
“I would like to (hear from Nash), but I don’t know,” Lakers coach Byron Scott said. “I gave him a call, but I haven’t gotten a return call. So we’ll see.”
Byron Scott did go on to say that he wasn’t angry at Steve Nash though did suggest that he would have returned the phone calls of any of his head coaches.
As for Nash, he is under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers so you’d like to think he’d be willing to return their phone calls. However he’s under contract as a player and not a coach, so technically he doesn’t have to come back and participate in such a role if he’s not interested in doing so. Combine that with suggestions stating the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to trade the expiring salary of Nash and you can understand why the veteran isn’t exactly chomping at the bit to return Scott’s calls.
Perhaps both sides will be able to find a middle ground but for now it appears to be a mildly messy divorce, though the marriage itself wasn’t exactly peachy either.
