While everybody enjoys watching big hits during football games, these are not the kind anybody wants to see.
Streaking down the sideline and beating his man, Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders appeared to be wide open which was noticed by Peyton Manning. The eventual Hall of Fame quarterback threw a beautiful pass to Sanders though it was just a touch overthrown resulting in the wideout having to stretch for the ball.
That’s when Rodney McLeod of the St. Louis Rams unloaded on the wide receiver in a devastating hit which sent the crowd into an instant hush.
Sanders understandably laid motionless on the field for a few moments after the impact.
Flags were thrown for multiple fouls on the play including the hit, though when slowed down it did appear as if McLeod did lead with his shoulder and did not hit Emmanuel Sanders in his head. Still, it was a horrific blow to the wide receiver who understandably needed significant assistance off the field.
The good sign was that Sanders was able to walk a bit and there wasn’t any need for the medical cart, though it was clear that he was not in the right frame of mind once he was taken off the field.
