Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford Fastest Ever To 20,000 Yards
By Phil Watson
Matthew Stafford took a record away from Hall of Famer Dan Marino Sunday, as the Detroit Lions quarterback became the fastest to 20,000 passing yards.
Not a lot of people would put Matthew Stafford in the same sentence as Dan Marino as an NFL quarterback, but on Sunday Stafford took one of Marino’s remaining passing records. Stafford became the fastest player ever to reach 20,000 passing yards in the Detroit Lions’ game against the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Stafford came into the game just 47 yards shy of 20,000 for his career and passed the milestone on a 30-yard completion to wide receiver Golden Tate early in the second quarter, per mlive.com.
Stafford reached the mark in his 71st career game. It took Marino until his 74th game to get to 20,000 career yards.
The No. 1 overall pick by the Lions out of Georgia in 2009, Stafford is already the Lions’ franchise leader in career passing yards and career passing touchdowns.
Stafford set an NFL single-season record in 2012 with his 727 pass attempts, breaking the old mark of 691 set by Drew Bledsoe of the New England Patriots in 1994.
Going into Sunday’s game, Stafford had completed 61.4 percent of his passes this season for 2,496 yards and 13 touchdowns, with eight interceptions.
