New England Patriots bring their dominant play to Indianapolis with overwhelming 42-20 victory

The Indianapolis Colts may have Andrew Luck, but Tom Brady has an entire arsenal of elite players — and it showed in this 42-20 beating.

Coming into the game, it looked like this would be a back-and-forth matchup between two quarterback powerhouses; by the end of the first quarter, it became clear that this would be a game of catch-up for the home team at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Patriots opened up with a 7-3 lead in the first fifteen minutes, and the Colts never recovered — though not for a lack of trying on their part. This was simply a rushing game, and the Indianapolis team was unable to hit even twenty rushing yards to make this an even matchup. An even 7-7 second quarter would be the last time Andrew Luck and his team were able to keep up with Tom Brady; by the end of the third quarter, it was clear how this game would end.

Although this was considered a redemption game for the Indianapolis Colts, they had been unable to triumph when faced with a Rob Gronkowski-less Patriots team; Gronk’s addition to the lineup proved to be more than the Colts could handle. A 26-yard pass from Brady to his most lethal teammate in the final quarter made two consecutive game periods in which the Patriots outscored the Colts by double — and as hard as the Indianapolis team tried to bring the score just a hair closer, the Patriots ushered in the final minutes to secure their 42-20 victory.

Jonas Gray finished his breakout performance with 199 yards and four touchdowns.

This brought the Patriots to a monstrous 8-2 record; they sit atop the AFC East and have extended their winning streak to six.

The Colts, on the other hand, are just holding on to their lead; with the Houston Texans bringing home another win Sunday afternoon, they have a one-game lead over the second place team in the AFC South.
