Still winless on the year, the Oakland Raiders know they need changes.
They hopefully have a franchise quarterback on their roster in Derek Carr though with plenty of holes to fill, it’s safe to say the organization is still a work in progress. That starts from the top and it’s likely a new head coach will be roaming the sidelines for the Raiders next season, but who?
Any current/former coach with a pulse has been rumored to be a candidate for such though one name continues to be talked about and that’s current San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The fiery former NFL quarterback has seemingly worn out his welcome across the Bay and NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggests that his days are numbered in Santa Clara. However his wife has no interest in leaving the area as the Harbaugh family has settled in after Jim’s stints at Stanford and with the 49ers.
That could lead to Jim Harbaugh taking a serious look at the Oakland Raiders according to NFL.com.
"Harbaugh’s wife doesn’t want to leave the Bay Area, Rapoport reported, according to a source. When we connect the dots, the Oakland Raiders — who fired Dennis Allen earlier this season — become a real candidate for landing Harbaugh, per Rapoport."
It’s been said that a happy wife is a happy life and we’ve seen multiple coaches in recent years at all levels make decisions based on family/wife requests, so it’s not outlandish to believe Harbaugh’s wife won’t influence what the head coach does moving forward.
Of course the Oakland Raiders need to have mutual interest and a willingness to meet Jim Harbaugh’s salary demands if he does indeed leave the San Francisco 49ers, but give the uncertainty they’ve dealt with over the past decade how can you not?
