According to ESPN’s Cleveland Browns analyst Tony Grossi, the team is going to hand off the starting running back duties to 21-year-old Isaiah Crowell out of Alabama State for the first time.

More from Cleveland Browns

According to a report from Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland, the Cleveland Browns will be letting former Georgia and Alabama State star Isaiah Crowell take the starting reins at running back on Sunday.

Grossi would also go on to note that Crowell won the starting job simply because he had the better week on the practice field of anyone else within the group.

For the most part the Browns have had either Ben Tate or Terrance West in the backfield to take handoffs, each with over 100 carries through their 6-3 start. Crowell has just 64 carries, but has a better yard per carry at 4.6 than the other two, who are stuck in the mid threes and Crowell has the most rushing touchdowns for the team standing at five for the year.

The only really negative thing you can say about Crowell is the fact he is the only back with a fumble on the year.

What could this mean? It could mean nothing.

Cleveland  has had a pretty healthy dose of each back this year and none of them have done horribly. They could be approaching a running game by committee, but we will see.

The Cleveland Browns take on the Houston Texans and Ryan Mallet as he prepares for his first start 1:00 ET today.
