The offense of the Buffalo Bills struggled on Thursday against the Miami Dolphins, but the team has no plans to make another change at quarterback. The Bills are set to stick with journeyman Kyle Orton for the foreseeable future.

Head coach Doug Marrone said after Thursday’s game that the thought of going back to second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel “Never crossed my mind.” That doesn’t mean that it wont cross his mind in the future if Buffalo’s offense continues to struggle, according to NFL.com‘s Kevin Patra.

At 5-5, the Bills a fringe playoff contender, but losing the Dolphins definitely hurt their chances. The Bills are now third in the AFC East, and need to pass six other teams to get into the playoffs as wild-card team.

Orton’s stats from Thursday’s game weren’t awful. He completed 22 of 39 passes (56 %) for 193 yards and zero interceptions. Unfortunately, he also had zero touchdowns. Converting in the red zone has been a problem for the Bills since Orton took over at quarterback.

Orton and the Bills have a difficult schedule down the stretch. They host the New York Jets and Rex Ryan’s defense next week, and still have games against playoff contenders Cleveland, Denver, Green Bay, and New England. If the Bills fall completely out of contention, a move at quarterback to Manuel could still be a possibility in Buffalo.
