When you get fired there are two ways you can take it. You can either get mad and vent your frustrations or you can simply take the situation in stride.
That’s exactly what one high school football coach did after he was informed he would no longer be in charge of the squad after a nine-year run atop the Durant (Ok.) football program.
Deciding to have some fun with the situation, former head coach Byron Cordell brought his family with him to the school to pack up his belongings and also included a video camera. The end result was nothing short of impressive as Cordell and his crew emulated their best Taylor Swift and created their own “Shake It Off” music video.
Despite the firing, Byron Cordell says he has no hard feelings (that was evident given the video) and believes the program is in good shape moving forward. He also says he’ll continue to root for the school and the kids as any good coach should.
“The program is in good shape,” said Cordell. “They are building the indoor practice facility, which will be a huge benefit for the team. We were the only school in our district that didn’t have access to a turf field everyday or an indoor facility to practice on. Ardmore, Ada and McAlester have had them for years and it’s a huge advantage. And that’s one huge disadvantage the program has had for years here, but it’s being rectified.”
It’s a cutthroat world, even at the high school sports level so it was a nice change to see somebody like Cordell who didn’t take the firing too hard.
