While Kobe Bryant may not be the locker room terror he once was as teammates say he’s far more nurturing than before, there’s no denying that Kobe Bryant is the same player on the court.
No, the skills aren’t the same as they’ve diminished in time though his desire to win remains unchanged.
That’s been evident in the early portion of the season as Bryant, hungrier than ever after missing all but six games last season due to knee injuries has come out of the gate firing this year. In fact, so much so the Los Angeles Lakers has all but requested Bryant to back off a bit in regards to taking so many shots.
Now the veteran NBA icon wonders if he’s being too aggressive in his attempts to make up for the Lakers lack of talent.
“Maybe I’m being too aggressive. Maybe I’ve got to let the person run a couple more blocks and let the authorities come. Those are things that I have to evaluate. It’s easy to look at everybody else. I’ll look at myself and see if there are other things I can do to keep guys involved and get them better opportunities, and things of that nature — and hopefully everybody’s doing the same thing.”
As much as Kobe Bryant may not want to admit it, the Black Mamba probably has a point.
Sure, he probably feels like a high school varsity player surrounded by a team of sixth graders, but he’s not going to make those around him any better by taking continued bad shots nor is he going to make life easier on himself.
Sadly for Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t a good team right now and they’re not going to get better no matter how much of the game Kobe Bryant wants to take over in their current capacity.
