Billy Butler was part of the reason the Oakland A’s fell short of the World Series, so signing him has apparently become a top priority this winter.

The Oakland Athletics made a huge splash this past summer in acquiring top pitching talent but it resulted in a Wild Card loss to the Kansas City Royals. Billy Butler didn’t have a great season last year but he contributed to the Wild Card loss and the eventual World Series run by the Royals that ended just short of a win.

Now the A’s are trying to find the hitting power they needed in that series and are going after a Royals player that Kansas City no longer wants. While the option was still on the table for the Royals to bring back Butler, the A’s are reportedly floating 30 million reasons for Butler to come out West.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the A’s and Butler are in ‘serious talks’ about a deal.

There is an unconfirmed rumor floating around that the deal is for $30 million, but for now it seems talks haven’t advanced to those stages yet.

The report was good enough for BuzzFeed to run with, but for now Billy Butler and the A’s are just talking with the heavy petting apparently getting heavier.
