Former NFL running back Tiki Barber says the New York Giants need to fire head coach Tom Coughlin.

There was a point and time when Tiki Barber was the face of the New York Giants franchise.

That didn’t last long especially after Barber went through some rather unflattering off the field situations, though the former running back remains a voice in the football community thanks to a few high profile media jobs.

Given that, Barber likes to voice his opinion and usually holds no punches in doing so, much like his recent suggestion that New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin needs to be fired.

Speaking to The Beast 980 radio in Los Angeles, Barber stated that players on the New York Giants roster are no longer listening to the head coach and it’s time for the axe to fall.

“As much as they want to pass the buck and blame the offensive coordinator, the team got rid of Kevin Gilbride and brought in Ben McAdoo. Now they say it’s the defensive coordinator’s fault, so maybe it’s time to get rid of Perry Fewell.

“At some point, it trickles uphill and it has to be Tom Coughlin’s responsibility.”

Tom Coughlin has of course become somewhat of a staple with the New York Giants’ franchise and while he’s not perfect by any stretch, he’s not the guy who tossed five interceptions last weekend either.

Tiki Barber of course has never turned down an opportunity to rip the Giants’ coach as he’s previously stated that Coughlin was much of the reason his football career came to an end (at least in a Giants uniform) so there’s obviously bad blood between the two.

Does Barber have a point? Perhaps, though it’s tough to put the entire blame on Tom Coughlin as the players need to be accountable as well.
