Ralph Wilson Stadium was built because the land was cheap because of high accumulations of snow. The Bills are regretting that decision this week thanks to the record-setting snow that hit the area.

The late Ralph Wilson built the stadium that bears his name because Orchard Park, NY offered cheap land because of high accumulations of snow.

Ooops!

The Buffalo Bills are regretting that decision this week as up four feet of snow has left the stadium completely under the white stuff. Weather forecasts project at least three more feet of snow will hit the area, which puts Sunday’s home game against the New York Jets up in the air, along with the lake effect snow that has left the city in a virtual standstill.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Bills have every intention of playing the game at home. The first step will be clearing out the estimated 220,000 tons of snow that stand in the stadium. Wednesday’s practice was canceled, and there’s not much hope in believing that Thursday will allow the 5-5 Bills to workout.

“We have not had this much snow, as far as we know, in the history of our team,” Bills vice president of operations and guest experience Andy Major said.

Considering that it takes at least three days to knock out one foot of snow, the Bills are probably going to need a miracle to make Sunday’s home game happen. The football gods do owe the team a favor (or four) when their Super Bowl failures are in play, so maybe, just maybe, this will even things out.
