With Nick Young injured and sidelined, the Los Angeles Lakers started off the season with a woeful 1-9 record.
They’re now 1-0 with Young back in the lineup after defeating the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday evening and the mouthy shooting guard seems to think there’s a reason for it: his swag.
Despite Kobe Bryant putting up 28 points on the night, it was Young who made the biggest impression on the court – at least according to him – as he feels as if his swag rubbed off on his teammates.
“It’s like my swag rubbed off on everybody,” Young said afterward. “It’s unbelievable.”
You’d like to think Nick Young was simply joking around and while he probably was a bit, he’s also likely diluted enough to think his ‘swag’ actually did make a difference.
The aforementioned Kobe Bryant wasn’t going to go that far and suggest Nick Young’s “swag” was behind the victory though was happy to get the former USC talent back in the Los Angeles Lakers lineup.
“It lifts the spirit of the guys,” Bryant said of Young’s presence. “It keeps things light. I think it’s great. That’s great leadership from that standpoint.”
As for the win, it’s not as if the Atlanta Hawks are a brick wall by any stretch though they were 4-0 at home before suffering a loss to the Lakers, so it’s a solid victory for Los Angeles and their swag. Unfortunately for Nick Young, even he may not have enough to get the Los Angeles Lakers out of their funk as they’re going to need a few batches of it if they’re to fight for a .500 record this season. Still, there’s no shame in pulling off a road victory, especially against a team that was undefeated at home.
