NFL vice president of football operations Troy Vicent admits he told Adrian Peterson his missed time could allow him to return to the Minnesota Vikings this season though states things were lost in translation.

Just when you thought the Adrian Peterson situation couldn’t get any messier, it does.

Hours after the NFL suspended the running back and an arbitrator denied his claim to be removed from the exempt list, rumors suggested NFL executive V.P. of football operations Troy Vincent told Peterson the games he had previously missed would count as time served.

The NFL denied such but Vincent has come out and stated he did indeed tell Peterson such though the context of such was lost in translation.

"Vincent acknowledges it was him who told Peterson that time away would be considered when weighing additional discipline in light of the 29-year-old running back’s no-contest plea to a misdemeanor reckless assault charge for injuring his 4-year-old son with a wooden switch."

In short, Troy Vicent essentially told Adrian Peterson that he needed to come speak with the league and that doing so would potentially allow the NFL to consider the time he missed as time served.

“But Adrian, you’ve got to come talk,” Vincent recalled telling him. “You, your team, your counselors, whoever. Just come and tell us where you are.”

Of course that’s not what happened and in the end NFL commissioner Roger Goodell swung harshly towards the Minnesota Vikings running back, emphatically blasting his lack of remorse in a letter to the former Pro Bowl talent.

It appears as if Adrian Peterson may have been able to see the field again this season had he taken the correct course of action and followed every single stepping stone set ahead of him by the NFL, but his reluctance may have ended up costing him significantly.
