Late Wednesday evening, ESPN put together a piece on Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota who was given a speeding ticket during the Ducks bye week after he was reportedly nabbed going 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
There was a glaring error in the article however and it had nothing to do with the text, rather the photo used in the piece.
Atop the article on Mariota’s speeding ticket was a photo of Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston.
While that’s slightly amusing to those who don’t root for the Seminoles, I’m pretty sure Jameis Winston nor the school were very happy with the mistake, especially because it was the third time that ESPN has made such a mistake. Yes, the third time.
It’s not that difficult to go through a photo database and nab the correct player and while mistakes will be made, doing so on three separate occasions makes one raise an eyebrow.

Jameis Winston has of course dealt with a significant amount of off the field problems and routinely does find himself in the headlines for the wrong reasons, so ESPN has had plenty of practice when it comes to putting together pieces on the Florida State signal caller.
Thankfully the Worldwide Leader did fix the mistake though I’m not sure how it got past the editorial team. Perhaps they were secretly trolling the Seminoles and Jameis Winston which would probably make the day of many, though this seems to be nothing more than an honest (though silly) mistake.
Oregon and Marcus Mariota aren’t probably thrilled over it either as the error has garnered more attention to Mariota’s lack of judgement than the original piece would have.
