Well, Durant is a Sonic again… kind of.
The 2014 NBA MVP announced on Thursday that he is now endorsing fast-food chain Sonic.
Durant will be the company’s first athlete ambassador, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell.
"“We feel really good about this partnership because Kevin is uniquely aligned with what we do and who we are as a brand,” said Todd Smith, Sonic’s chief marketing officer. (…)As part of Durant’s deal, he will be responsible for coming up with his own dishes for the brand, which recently opened a test kitchen.Yormark said Durant’s items will be geared toward the healthier side, which falls in line with some of his other endorsements."
While there’s obviously no real connection between Sonic and the SuperSonics, this new deal does give us an excuse to relive KD’s time in a Seattle uniform. He averaged an impressive 20.3 points per game and was named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year in his lone SuperSonics season (2007-08).
This has been a big year for Durant in terms of endorsements. This summer, he signed 10-year, $300 million shoe contract with Nike. He also became endorsers for Sparkling Ice, a sparkling water brand, and Orange Leaf, a yogurt franchise, early this year.
