Edmonton Oilers On Yet Another Downhill Slide
The Edmonton Oilers are on yet another losing streak… who’s surprised?
I want to see a show of hands; who’s overly shocked that the Edmonton Oilers have gone on their second five-game losing streak already this season?

A lot of fans blame the players; just as many point fingers at the coach and front office. The problem is much bigger than any one thing, though — young guys such as Nail Yakupov and Leon Draisaitl aren’t really ready for the NHL, yet are on the ice all season, and it’s no secret that the franchise is struggling massively on the back end.
The Colorado Avalanche and the Arizona Coyotes are both having horrendous starts to the season, yet they each sit a full three and four points apiece above the Oilers. The only team below them is the Buffalo Sabres; the only team tied for them in points is the Columbus Blue Jackets, who started the season with a roster half depleted. They’re the only fully healthy, fully stocked team that can’t seem to bring home wins… and it’s looking like that won’t change until someone gets moved.
The team lost forward Benoit Pouliot to a broken foot during their most recent 2-0 shutout loss to the New Jersey Devils, and they play next against the Chicago Blackhawks — this team could extend their current losing streak to six, putting them even farther behind the pack.
It may be too early to fire the staff, but it’s certainly not too early to make a trade. Head coach Dallas Eakins said per the team’s Twitter account that everyone needs to start putting in the same effort as Boyd Gordon… but maybe it’s a fresh face on the ice that will fix things.
After all, when you play a full twenty seconds short-handed — BY ACCIDENT — it’s pretty clear that things aren’t trending in a good direction. As a matter of fact, that might suggest that the players can’t even watch the game anymore.
