Quarterbacks
Start: Despite a rocky road the last few weeks, Colin Kaepernick deserves a start as a low-end QB1 for another week as he and the 49ers take on the Redskins defense which has been struggling against the pass especially. No team has allowed more points to opposing QB’s than Washington this season, and Kap at home should be able to put up a solid game and keep San Francisco’s playoff push rolling. Among the QB2 options, my favorite for the week is Ryan Tannehill who takes on the Broncos who have been good against the run but struggled against the pass in the last few weeks. They’ve allowed nine passing touchdowns in their last four games and have allowed multiple passing touchdowns to every QB they’ve faced for a full game except Shaun Hill last week and Alex Smith back in week 2. Tannehill has been very solid on the road this year and has multiple touchdown passes in five of his last seven games (last week: Robert Griffin III, Teddy Bridgewater)
Sit: If you lost Nick Foles like the Eagles or need a bye week fill-in, Mark Sanchez can be an emergency option although he shouldn’t be starting in most single-QB leagues this week. The Titans have allowed the ninth-fewest fantasy points to opposing QB’s and have not allowed multiple passing TD’s in any of their last five games. Another matchup I’d try to avoid is the Rams defense that shut down Peyton Manning. Philip Rivers may or may not be dealing with an injury, but either way he’s struggling and the Rams defense is playing well so look elsewhere if possible. (last week: Russell Wilson, Eli Manning)
Sleeper: This week’s game in Chicago is a revenge game for Josh McCown as he leads the Bucs into Soldier Field coming off their second win of the season. McCown has thrown for 275+ yards in both his starts since coming back from a thumb injury with two touchdown passes in each games. He’s worth a look after getting Tampa a win in Washington and should be extra motivated in this road game against the Beard defense which allows the third-most fantasy points to opposing QB’s. The team that allows the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing QB’s is the Eagles who face rookie Zach Mettenberger who looked good against the Steelers on Monday Night Football and is worth a look if you’re desperate and McCown is off the table as well. (Last week: Josh McCown, Andy Dalton)
