Hanley Ramirez has decided to move on from the Los Angeles Dodgers and sign a four-year, $88 million dollar contract with the Boston Red Sox.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are now left with a massive hole on the left side of their infield and in their lineup as shortstop Hanley Ramirez has decided to leave the franchise and head to the East Coast.

Ramirez, who was originally a Boston Red Sox farmhand has returned to his former organization where he signed a four-year, $88 million dollar contract with the franchise on Monday afternoon.

Reports had surrfaced last week that Ramirez had mutual interest in the Red Sox who were said to be courting both he and Pablo Sandoval. Now one of the dominoes has fallen according to Ken Rosenthal.

What exactly this means in the chase for Pablo Sandoval is unknown. Both the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants, his current team, have extended contract offers to the Panda though the Boston Red Sox certainly have enough available funds to bring his aboard as well.

As for Hanley Ramirez, he’s proven himself to be one of (if not the best) offensive shortstop in the game when healthy. Of course, that has been his glaring wart as Ramirez often finds himself dealing with nagging issues and routinely misses games.

On the plus side it’s possible that Hanley Ramirez will be able to slide into the designated hitter role when dealing with such and down the road after David Ortiz moves on, so it seems like a pretty solid deal all around for the Boston Red Sox.

Your move, New York Yankees.
